The keynote address was delivered by the Honourable KZN MEC Finance, Ina Cronjé at a launch function programme directed by four Grade 7 learners who gave a sterling performance all in the name of committing their 67 minutes to a good cause.

TCTS SA is an annual savings programme of the banking industry and broader financial sector coordinated by The Banking Association South Africa. The objectives of TCTS SA are to inculcate a culture of saving in children and to promote volunteerism in the financial sector.

The rallying motto of the programme is “Ligotshwa lise manzi”, a Zulu maxim meaning that you best shape a stick whilst still moist.

The Banking Association South Africa commissioned the Charities Aid Foundation Southern Africa (CAFSA) to develop a Volunteerism Framework/Policy for the TCTS SA programme. The framework was based on three pillars – MOTIVATE, INSPIRE and MANAGE VOLUNTEERISM. This guide was well received by the various participating banks and financial sector institutions.

The theme for TCTS SA 2011 is “Save 4 A Better Future”. For more information about the programme please visit www.tcts-sa.org.za Join us on Facebook – Teach Children to Save South Africa and Twitter - @TCTSSA
